Getting Married

So, it's been legal in NH for us to get married since the beginning of 2010.  A couple of weekends ago, there was a church around here offering to do the ceremonies for free as long as you showed up with your marriage license in hand.  We were stoked - and ready to have that real marriage license from our state.

Then came the problem......

You see, back a few years ago when we thought NH would NEVER jump on the gay marr.iage bandwagon, we "hopped the border" and got a C.ivil Un.ion in VT.  That is where the problem lies.  Before we can apply for a marriage license here, we have to go to court and get our VT Civi.l Un.ion dissolved.  And, that will cost us $205.  Just to get married  - which, by the way will cost $100.

So, to make a long story short, we have to get divorced before we can get married (legally).

It's always something, isn't it?

Gay Marriage

So, I'm sad for the same sex couples of Maine - sad that their right to marry was granted over the summer and then denied by the voters yesterday. Serioulsy, isn't it 2009 people - it isn't going to hurt anyone if you let same sex couples get married. People honestly don't realize how many rights we are denied when we can't marry.

Thankfully there has been NO hullabaloo here in NH since our law passed. It goes into effect Jan 1. I can't wait to be able to say that I am MARRIED to the love of my life.

To add insult to injury some idiot wrote a letter to the editor in our local paper saying that the reason that we had an abnormally rainy summer was because God wasn't allowing the sun to shine here because gay marriage is legal.

Are you kidding me?!?!

We WON!!!!!

NH passed the Gay Marriage Bill today!!!! We are the 6th state to make it legal! I am so proud of us! Next year, I can finally marry the love of my life! The best part is that they will convert Civil Unions to Marriage for free!

The following is an excerpt from Governor Lynch's statement after he signed the bill into law today. I think it is very poignant and shows that he truly does serve the people of NH!

It is my hope, and my belief, that New Hampshire will again come together to embrace tolerance and respect, and to stand against discrimination.

That has how we in New Hampshire have always lived our lives and that is how we will continue as we move forward.

Most families in New Hampshire will awaken tomorrow, go to work and to school, and feel no impact from what we have accomplished today.

But for some, they will awaken tomorrow knowing we have said to them that they are equal, that they have the same rights to live and to love as everyone else.

Today is a day to celebrate in New Hampshire. Today should not be considered a victory for some and a loss for others.

Today is a victory for all the people of New Hampshire, who I believe, in our own independent way, want tolerance for all.

That is truly the New Hampshire way.

Gay Marriage

For any of you in the Northeast, you have probably been following the news regarding gay marriage. A couple of weeks ago, the Vermont house passed their gay marriage law even though their Governor vetoed it. Just last week, the Governor of Maine passed their gay marriage law. Also last week, the New Hampshire House and Senate both passed the bill that would allow gay marriage. Now we are just waiting for Governor Lynch to sign it. The problem is - he said he believes the word marriage should be reserved for a man and a woman. However, he has not stated that he won't sign the bill either. So, we are just waiting to see what he will do.

New Hampshire Freedom to Marry is running the following TV ad to gather support for this bill. I think they did a nice job with it!



We are keeping our fingers crossed that our Governor will do the right thing and make HB436 become law. If he does, 5 of the 6 New England states will allow gay marriage!
