Gay Marriage

For any of you in the Northeast, you have probably been following the news regarding gay marriage. A couple of weeks ago, the Vermont house passed their gay marriage law even though their Governor vetoed it. Just last week, the Governor of Maine passed their gay marriage law. Also last week, the New Hampshire House and Senate both passed the bill that would allow gay marriage. Now we are just waiting for Governor Lynch to sign it. The problem is - he said he believes the word marriage should be reserved for a man and a woman. However, he has not stated that he won't sign the bill either. So, we are just waiting to see what he will do.

New Hampshire Freedom to Marry is running the following TV ad to gather support for this bill. I think they did a nice job with it!

We are keeping our fingers crossed that our Governor will do the right thing and make HB436 become law. If he does, 5 of the 6 New England states will allow gay marriage!

It is such a huge improvement that the US even has 5 States that allow it. When most of us came out there wasn't any and we were affraid of coming out. Things really have changed for the better and it can only go up from here. Oh, don't get me wrong. There are still a ton of people are are going to try and stop it and make things difficult, but they won't be able to stop it forever.

It cracks me up that those whom oppose gay marriage feel that it would "open doors to all kinds of whacky marriages: ie, cousins, siblings, animals." So just saying marriage is between a "man and a woman" stops that? Hmmmm...are brothers and sisters not "man and woman?"

I am so proud of my state of birth. Though I have not lived there in 20+ years, I still think of it as home. I would definitely travel back to be able to LEGALLY marry my wife, even though it would not be recognized in my current state of residence.
