Today's Non-Challenge Post: What do you prefer to do on your birthday? If you have children, what do you prefer to do for their birthday?
We keep birthdays low key around here. We usually make a nice dinner and open presents from each other. Often we will go out to eat with family as well. MJ and I do have lots of fun getting gift for each other!
Now that we have a child we want to enjoy at home birthday parties with him! We want to have good "old fashioned" parties with friends and games in the back yard! Some of my favorite birthday memories as a child involved parties like that. We will make our own invitations and decorations and just have lots of fun!

When A was in preschool, we went to birthday parties at gyms, country clubs, pottery places, all sorts of fancy stuff. I felt tremendous pressure to have a big glamorous affair.
Instead, we had an at-home party with musical chairs, pin the tail on the donkey, picture bingo, a pinata, and so on ... the kids were all talking about what a wonderful party it was. After all of the glitz and glamour stuff, it was actually **novel** for them. Go figure :-)
